Less than a week after Gulf Giants were crowned the league’s first winners, the start date for the second season of the UAE-based T20 league was revealed.
On January 13, 2024, the International League T20 (ILT20) will launch its second season. In 34 of the ILT20 2024’s matches, six teams will compete against one another. It will begin on February 12, 2024, for the final game.
The start date for the second season was announced on Saturday by the UAE-based T20 league, less than a week after Gulf Giants were crowned the inaugural champions in Dubai.
The early disclosure of the date is unusual in and of itself for a T20 league circuit, usually launch dates and fixture lists typically revealed closer to the time the league begins. The SA20, Big Bash League, and perhaps the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) would encounter the same scheduling difficulties as they had this season.
The ILT20 was one of two new men’s franchise leagues added to the schedule this year, along with the SA20. Due to a crossover of club owners between the two leagues and the IPL this year, there was a lot of competition for players and calendar space, resulting in talents like England’s Moeen Ali signing contracts with both leagues.
In the end, both leagues continued to play almost simultaneously. Given that SA20 will begin following the New Year’s Test, a conflict is almost certain to arise the following season and is expected to occur again. There had been discussions in the months before to the ILT20 this year about how they might work with other boards to minimize conflicts, including the potential of hosting the ILT20 before January.
According to a source, the competing demands of players’ schedules and the expanding possibilities available to them arose as best illustrated by Moeen. While on international service in South Africa, he participated in the ILT20 for Sharjah Warriors. After that, he went to Bangladesh for a few BPL games. Following the BBL, the Pakistan Super League began, which shared a lot of time with these events.
He would like to thank the fans who attended the three sites as well as those who watched the coverage throughout the world for their tremendous support, said His Highness Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance and Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board. The league was successful in demonstrating to the globe both their home-grown cricket talent and their first-rate hosting qualities, which make the UAE an excellent cricketing destination.
He commented that DP World ILT20 will continue to have a significant influence on the growth of cricket in the nation and solidify UAE as one of the world’s premier cricket venues. In Season 2, they are eager to entertain and host all of the cricketers and fans.
“We are delighted to announce Saturday, January 13, 2024 as the commencement date of DP World ILT20 Season 2,” said Khalid Al Zarooni, vice chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board and chairman of the DP World ILT20. The league will continue to expand and build on this fantastic start after the inaugural season was a tremendous success, exceeding expectations.
